Hiranyakahyap and prahlad are not physical at all,they are the forms of your ketu and rahu(spiritual), and there is a constant fight going between both which is present in you. When you have a very strong faith in lord,you are prahlad[ketu] , but your hiranyakahyap(ego)[rahu] does not allow you to proceed, only after strong fight ,you are able to see lord in every creature and every element on this earth. Once you are sure, lord kills your ego ( hiranyakashyap). This story just coded to show you how much faith you need like prahlad to overcome your ego (mind) Ketu kills rahu. That’s why hiranyakashyap got a wish that he can not be killed by ashtra shashtra, deva danav etc etc. Because it’s your ego
