by Vikas Varshney

KP horary Number

Since the zodiac can be divided into 249 divisions, each ruled by a sign-lord (one per 30 deg), star-lord (one per 13 deg 20 min) and a star-sublord (variable dimensions, 40 min to 2 deg 13 min 20 sec), Sri KSKji made several tests using a KP Horary number between 1 and 249. The starting position of the sub that corresponds to the KP Horary number is used as the ascendant in a chart drawn for the moment of the query (planetary longitudes were calculated for the moment). Other houses are calculated based on the Ascendant and the date of judgment. The complete table with the KP horary number and the corresponding rasi lord, star lord, sub lord and starting DMS (Degree, Minutes, Seconds) can seen here

http://www.astrosage.com/horary.asp

A client providing a number that was outside this range was told that the venture would not be a success!

General Steps in the KP Horary
1. Take a Horary Number.
1.1. Take a horary number from 1-249 with the querent’s strong urge to know thecorrect answer.
1.2. The `Time chart’ analysis may not be the KP Horary, which depends on the querent’s chosen number referring to a particular sign, star and sub as the Ascendant.
1.3. If no urge means no horary, then the `Time chart’ without the querent’s urge may not be horary.2. Check the Moon for Genuineness of the Question.
2.1. Check the Moon whether it signifies the main or any of the subsidiary house(s) in question. For example, for foreign going the main house is 12 and the subsidiary houses are 3 and 9.  In the `Time chart’ without the querent’s urge and the KP horary chart withnumber fixing the cusps of the zodiac, for the genuineness of the querent’s question, how the Moon position, depending on the time of judgment of the astrologer, would be the precondition to get the correct answer?
2.2. Is there any KP reference for 9 to be the main house for foreign going as taken by some astrologers and the two interlinks theories
.3. Check the Main House CSL for Promise of Desire.
3.1. Check whether the CSL of the main house signify the main or any of the subsidiary house(s) in question.
3.2. In the question “Will I go to Dubai office for Job as I am not interested in going to Cairo?”, the main question is “Will I go to Dubai?” for foreign goingto take 12 as the main house as per KP, and the purpose of journey is for job.Point to ponder:
3.3. The promise of journey may not be linked with the purpose of the journey, i.e. 12th CSL should be linked to 3,9 or 12, but 6,10 for job is optional.
4. Examine 11th CSL for Desire Fulfillment.
4.1. Examine whether the 11th CSL signifies the main or any of the subsidiary house(s) in question and 11 to find out about the fulfillment of desire.
4.2. In this case of foreign going, it is to examine whether the 11th CSL signify 3,9 or 12, 11.Points to ponder:
4.3. The 11th CSL’s signification of 11 alone may not be sufficient for fulfillment of all kinds of the querist’s desires, like foreign going, marriage, promotion etc. because 11th has no power to operate independently.
4.4. It may be therefore more reasonable, if the 11th CSL signifies any relevanthouse to question, here 3,9,12 and also 11.
5. Cross check Ascendant CSL for Success of Querent’s Attempt
.5.1. Examine whether the 1st CSL signifies any relevant house to question and 11to find out about success of the querent’s attempt.Points to ponder:
5.2. It may be better if the 1st CSL signifies not only 11 as found by some astrologers but also any relevant house to question, here 3,9,12.6. Check the DB lords with the Ruling Planets
6.1. Check whether the current running DB lords are the significators of the matter in question and then they are common with the Ruling Planets at the time ofjudgment.Point to ponder:

KP — Significance of Sublords!

by Vikas Varshney

  1. The Cuspal Sub Lord of a house indicates whether the matter signified by that house is promised or denied.
  2. If the Cuspal Sub Lord of that house is the significator of that house or any one of the houses under consideration, the matter signified by that house will be promised.
  3. As each house denotes several particular matters, the chief governor of the matter to be judged may be taken into consideration. If it is connected with the house or any one of the houses under consideration – especially with the Star Lord of the Cuspal Sub Lord, it is desirable
  4. .The principle regarding the significators as explained in order of significators should always be kept in mind

In the Horoscope, a sign is on the cusp of each house. A planet occupies the sign, and planetary strength is determined accordingly – as it occupies its own sign, exalted sign or debilitated sign. So the occupant in a sign is stronger than the owner of the sign. The sign is the 1/12th part of the Zodiac, while the Constellation or Star is stronger than the sign. Hence the planet in the star is stronger than its Star Lord (which may be either the occupant or the owner of the sign). The occupant (planet) in a sign mostly gives the results of the house occupied by it. So the planet in the star better gives the results of the house occupied by its Star Lord.

Keeping these principles (above) in mind, the order or strength of the significators of each house should be determined by:

1. Planet in the Occupants Star:

A planet in the Star of the occupant of a house is stronger than the occupant. So it should be given first preference as a significator of that house, because it is strongest to give the results of the house occupied by its Star lord. The occupant remains as a weak significators of that house.

2. Occupant:

If there is no planet in the occupants Star, the occupant becomes the strong significator of that house and it is strong to give the results of that house. So the second preference should be given to the occupant of that house.

3. Planet in the Owners Star:

If the house is vacant, the planet in the Star of the owner of a house is stronger than the owner. So it becomes a strong significator of that house and it is strong to give the results of that house. Hence the third preference should be given to the planet in the owners Star and the owner remains a weak significator of that house.

4. Owner:

If the house is vacant and if there is no planet in the owners Star, the owner itself becomes the strong significator of that house and it is strong to give the results of that house. So the 4th preference should be given to the owner of that house.

5. Planet in Conjunction Or Aspect:

(a)   A planet in conjunction or association with, or aspected by a significator gives the results of the house or houses denoted by that significator. So the last preference should be given to the planet in conjunction or aspect with that significator.

(b)  A planet aspecting the house may be considered as the significator of that house.

6. A planet in the Star of the planet aspecting the house. For example: Say Saturn in the 5th aspects the 7th, 11th, and 2nd. So the planet in the Star of Saturn will give the results of the 2nd, 7th, and 11th.

Bhavchalit Chart!

by Vikas Varshney

How is rashi chart Different from Bhav chalit chart!

1. Mathematically:
Rashi chart assumes that all the houses are equal – 30 degrees in length.
In bhava chart, the mid point of a house, i.e. the bhava madhya, is given a lot of importance. The upper and the lower limits of influence of a house are called Bhava Sandhis. Planets are placed in this newly computed Bhava chart – and we get something called Chalit chart. The rule is simple, if a planets longitude is more than the starting sandhi and less than the end sandhi, it is said to fall in that bhava.

2. For interpretations:
 rashi chart along with divisional charts on one hand and bhava charts on other hand. We never mix divisional charts with bhava chart.
 Planets influence a chart based on the bhava they are situated in.
 Rule of thumb – if an interpretation system works only with planets and houses and not signs, you can safely assume that it is working with the chalit chart and not the rashi chart.
 However, the aspects of planets on other planets are always studied from rashi chart. Similarly exaltation/debilitation of planets is again studied only from the rashi chart. Manglik Dosha is studied partly from bhava chart (e.g. statements like Mars causes dosha if situated in 7th house) and partly from rashi chart. When looking for exceptions (e.g. Mars in Simha, i.e. in the sign of a friend does not cause dosha), we should see the rashi chart.
Normally, bhava chart and rashi chart would agree with each other. However, if the Ascendant or planets  degree is closer to multiple of 30, there may be differences between the charts. It is always interesting to see if a planet has moved from one house to another from rashi chart to chalit chart. This explains a lot of times why a yoga that is so obvious in rashi chart does not fructify in real life.

Bhava Chalit Chart Calculations!

by Vikas Varshney

How to calculate Bhava Chalit Chart According to Lagna?

Simple: All you need is LAGNA Longitude

If more than 15 : SUBSTRACT
If less than 15 : ADD

Eg.
Lagna Longitude 23.50 Gemini
More than 15
therefore SUBSTRACT
= 8.50
Therefore first house is from 8.50 Gemini to 8.50 Cancer

Lagna Longitude is 7.25 Cancer
Less than 15
therefore ADD
= 22.25
Therefore first house is from 22.25 Gemini to 22.25 Cancer

See, Basically, the Lagna longitude should be the midpoint! Simple

KETU IN THREE HOUSES RASHIS!!!

by Vikas Varshney

The Role of “Ketu” in the 3 Raashis-

In Mesha

This is derived from “Mishathithi Mesha” that which blossoms. The Supreme being himself Himself blossoms out to form the world and to form its base. This is the seat of The Supreme being.Mars is the Lord of this Raashi.Mars is Fire, Chithagni, jnanagni, brahmagni and so on. It therefore follows that Mars is born of the Supreme being who is synonymous with Fire. The word “Ashwini” is derived from “ashugachhanti aswah asu vyaptha” “aswasya apathyam strii Aswini” means spreading out with speed.Relating to the Supreme Being who spreads out in the world and forms the base of the world. (All pervading). The Star Ashwini is associated with Ketu ie. one beginning his Life (The World) with the period of Ketu. Ketu denotes the quality of Tamas(Darkness and Ignorance). Since it is not possible to understand the Absolute, the similie of Darkness is given following the statement in the Upanishad  , “Thama aasith thamasa goodhamagre”. Hence Ashwini corresponds to the Ketu period.

In Simha

Simha is derived from “Simha himsa yaam” ie. tortuting bears out the suffering of the pure “I”.Everyone born as a man is tied by the chords of Rajas

(activity) and Tamas (Illusion) , and is involved in wordly affairs. To get rid of this bondage , one must enter the path of liberation and pass

it successfully. The Sun being the Lord of this Raashi, His portfolio pertains to the duties of the “Father”.Just like the Role of the Mother in Karkataka where she bears a child in her womb, nurses and rears him and protects him till iot becomes fit enough to go ahead in the world and then hands it over to his father for his further progress. The extension and continuance of family geneaology is the significance here. The Star Magha appears in this Raashi. The word Magha (Makha) implies”Makha theethi makhaa, which means covering. The word Ketu too means “Keyathati Thamoruupena chikithsathi vaa saa kethuhu” ie. pervading with Tamas. Under the significance of Makha the childs sight when falls on objects around him ,gradually gets covered by the illusion characteristic of Tamas contained in the meaning of Ketu.(Dont you see how a child leaps to have the baloon or a colourful doll in Your hand when you show it to him ?This same Ketu then wants it to have other objects when he grows in age, and becomes a youth..etc.) Therefore this cover (aavarana) of Tamas creates in the child both the illusion that the objects of the world are real, and the yearning to enjoy them.(If this Tamas from Ketu is not created then how will a man want to work and enjoy more, and procreate just like his Father and forefathers did keeping the family alive, which attribute essentially is denoted by this particular star- Pitrus).

In Sagittarius

Dhanu means “Dhanatthee thi dhanah: ie. to sound. As a bow makes sound while bending , so the recitation of bthe word “Om” causes a sound.the principle of emancipation is associated with this sign. The Shastras say that the “omkara” itself is Dhanus (The Bow).Pranavo Dhanushasharovhatma Brahmatallakshya Muchyate |apramaten Vedhavyam Sharvatanmayo Bhavet ||

(Mundakopanishad)

This is the Sign where the cloak of Darkness (Tamas of Ketu) is lifted. through whom?through a Guru (The Owner of this Sign representing same). How is this darkness lifted ? The Moola Nakshatra is owned by Ketu we all know about. The Muladhar Chakra is connected to Moola is again what most of us are aware about.
(In the earthy application of this Chakra, the power basic, for creation of Progeny is situated in a man, in this Chakra).
The Mooladhar chakra is the letter “A” in the Onkara and is the Seat of the Creator (The 4 Headed Brahma).

hence it is also known as the Brahma Granthi. Therefore the seeker of Liberation who has been meditating through the recital of the Omkara, should commence this recital from the Muladhara Chakra (Dont these Yoga Teachers ask their students that Om ka uchharan andar se, neeche naabhi se aana chahiye?) to pierce the knot Brahmagranthi in it, and go up the Sushumna nerve (This nerve incidentally is the Radha of Krishna esoterically), thus paving the path for attaining ParaBrahman, or Oneness with the Only One.Therefore this same Ketu who brings us in, in this world and makes us crave (Tamas Guna) , also shows us the way Out that is why it is also known as a Mokshkaraka.

Destiny or Free Will!!

by Vikas Varshney

What  is  final  decision  about Destiny &  free will?  “Does Astrology  teach  fatality?”  “Do  the stars  indicate circumstances or conditions over which  the  individual can have no control?””Does  Astrology  help  us  find  our  true  niche  in  the  Universe?”  These  are  very  loaded questions and due pondering is required. ‘Tamaso maa Jyotirgamaya’ … Take me from darkness to the eternal light. This prayersays that we always want to be positive, lively, and energetic, with the power of our Soul, which is divine. It says God is our friend. Let us learn to make God Himself our friend, get out of the clutches of Fate and Destiny and expand our free will. Let us meet God with our free will today and everyday for the rest of our lives.

To find out an answer to this question we must start with the premise that there is somepurpose in creation of the universe and everything therein works in accordance with a pre-arranged sequence wherein there is no chaos and man is just a small component of the whole marvel. The purpose of human life in this scheme of things is to make man perfectand thus free him from the cycle of repeated births and deaths (moksha) Many learned people say that there is nothing called destiny or fate. This line of thinking says that human beings have the option to take decisions using their free will. All our successes, failures and actions are governed by the decisions we take. If we take correct decisions and act accordingly, no one can prevent us from achieving what we want to. If we fail,it must be due to something gone wrong on account of our own shortcomings.

Theory of free will will does not answer the question of differences between different people at the point of their birth. Why one is born to rich parents and another to poor ones? Why are some children born healthy and some sick or crippled in some way? And such other similar questions are unanswered. The Bhagavad Gita has been advocating nishkama karma – desireless action – since time immemorial. It says “Your choice is in action only, never in the result thereof. Do not be the author of the result of action. The reincarnation theory also states that the consequences of actions (Karma Phala) need not necessarily be experienced in the present life; they can be carried over into future lives. Because of this, several sub-divisions of Karma have been postulated.

Sanchita Karma:The store house of unexhausted Karmic end results accumulated from previous births.

Prarabdha Karma That part of one’s Sanchita Karma which started bearing fruit and must be worked out in the present life. Prarabdha is often translated as destiny.

Agami Karma:Consequences of new Karma getting accumulated in the present lifetime on account of current actions which is carried forward into future lives. This theory implies that all events are predestined. There is nothing called free will. We are all like instruments in some grand design and nothing else. All our thoughts and actions are
predestined.

The third school contends that both destiny and free will work side by side in human activities. It says that free will is not exclusive but is included in destiny. Hindu philosophy does not entirely accept any one theory viz. destiny or free will. If destiny is the only deciding factor how is it possible then that the seeds for future births can be sown in the present birth which is dependent on one’s free will? If no initiative is taken in life and everything is left to destiny it is a mere escape from responsibility to perform one’s own duties and is fatalism. Bhagavad Gita reiterates that none can remain without performing action even for a second.  On the other hand if absolute free will alone is going to be the determining factor, then why many of our efforts result in failures despite sincere and honest efforts while many other actions succeed where no sincere efforts are made?

KP astrology

by Vikas Varshney

I was searching sites to know about KP astrology then i found a very good website. These rules we can apply in NADI astrology as discussed in previous posts

 Abortion:

1. When counting the number of children, such as the first child being represented by the 5th house cusp, the 2nd child being represented by the 7th house cusp, the third child being represented by the 9th house cusp, etc., what happens when there has been an abortion? Do we count that as a child?

Mistakes made here will give mistakes in predicting correctly the sex of each child and the number of children. When an abortion takes place after 3 months from conception, the fetus is counted as a child because during that abortion, the sex of the child was clearly developed, but when abortion takes place before the completion of the 3 month gestational period, this pregnancy is not taken as a child birth because the sex of the child, prior to that time, is not clear. So this factor must be clearly known for an astrologer to fix both the sex of the child, and the correct number of children that the mother will deliver.

Accidents:

1. Consider houses 8 and 12 for accidents: 8th serious illness, accident, suicide; 12th – self-undoing, confinement in bed or hospital, defects, deformities, amputation or mutilation of a limb, bodily injury. Mars, Saturn, Rahu, and Ketu cause accidents.

2. If the sub lord of either the Ascendant or the 8th house cusp is posited in the star of the occupant or the owner of the 8th or 12th house, there will be an accident.

3. The danger to the individual’s life will likely prove fatal  if the sub lord is in the star of either the occupant or the owner of the 8th, 7th, or 2nd.

4. The individual will survive the accident if the sub lord is in the star of either the occupant or owner of the 2nd, 7th, and 11th.

Adoption:

1. What indicators show adoption in a chart?

An individual who has been denied children will opt for adopting a child if the 5th cuspal sub lord and Jupiter, Saturn, Mercury, Mars, and Moon, are connected to the 4th, 8th, and 12th houses.

Badhaka Houses:

1. The badhaka houses are houses that are harmful to life, and badhaka houses are more harmful for life than maraka houses. The badhaka houses are the 11th for those born in Cardinal (moveable) signs, the 9th for those born in Fixed signs, and the 7th for those born in Mutable (dual) signs.

2. For death, first consider the badhaka houses, and then the maraka houses as dangerous  for the native, as there is danger to life during the joint period (dasha/bhukti) of the significators of the badhaka and maraka houses

Barren Signs:

1.Aries, Gemini, Leo, and Virgo are called the barren or sterile signs.

2. Barren signs on the cusps of the 5th and 11th houses (11th being 5th to the partner) and the lords of these not posited in fruitful signs, the Moon not in a fruitful sign, the lagna not in a fruitful sign, the lord of the lagna not posited in a fruitful sign, and no fruitful planet in the 5th or 11th house, are indications of no children.

Constructing a Building:

1. If the cuspal sub lord of the 4th is the significator of the 4th, 11th, or 12th, one will have his own building during the joint period of the significators of the 4th, 11th, and 12th.

Death:

1. When Saturn, Rahu, and Ketu simultaneously transit in the stars and subs of the badhaka and maraka significators in the birth chart – during a particular year in question – the native is likely to suffer from serious illness.

2. When Saturn, Rahu, and Ketu simultaneously transit in the stars and subs of the badhaka and maraka significators of the spouse in the birth chart – during a particular year in question – the native’s spouse is likely to suffer from serious illness.

3. The sub lord of the lagna rising is known to have a mysterious link with death. While judging death, it is invariably found that the sub lord of the lagna rising – whether it be for a horoscope cast for the birth time or for a prashna(within 249), it has an intimate relation with the time of death – for example – its period, sub period, or sub sub period  must be connected with the time of death.

Disease and Cure:

1. If the sub lord of the 6th cusp is in the star of the occupant or owner of the 6th or 1st, the native may suffer from disease.

2. Consider the 6th house for sickness or disease. For cure, consider the 1st, 5th, and 11th:

1st – health, 5th is 12th to the 6th – or absence of sickness, 11th is 12th to 12 – or absence of bedridden sickness.Divorce:

1. Consider houses 1, 6 and 10 for separation or divorce (being 12th from 2nd, 7th, and 11th respectively). These houses denote absence of married life.

Education

1. Houses 4, 9, and 11 are for education or studies, while 3 and 8 address completion, negation, or denial of studies.

2. If the sub lord is the occupant or owner of the 4th, 9th, or 11th; or is in the star of the occupant or owner of the 4th, 9th, and 11th; or is in conjunction or in aspect with the significator of  the 4th, 9th, or 11th, it is said to be harmonious to the matters of the 4th, 9th, and 11th.

3. In other words, if the sub lord is the significator of the 4th, 9th, or 11th it is said to be harmonious to and connected with the matters of the 4th, 9th, and 11th.

4. If the sub lord is the significator of the 3rd or the 8th, it is detrimental to the matters of the 4th, 9th, and 11th and it is said to be connected with the 3rd and 8th.

Employment:

1. If the cuspal sub lord of the 6th or 10th is the significator of the 2nd, 6th, or 10th, service or earning ability is promised during the joint period (dashas) of the significators of the 2nd, 6th, and 10th.

Eyesight/Vision

1. Sun, Moon, and Venus denote vision, while Mercury governs the nervous system.

2. Consider the 2nd (right eye), the 12th (left eye; defect), the 6th (disease), and the 8th (danger).

3. If the sub lord of the 12th cusp is the significator of the 6th, 8th, or 12th, then only during the joint period (dashas) of the significators of the 2nd and the 12th, the eye sight becomes defective.

4. If the Sun, Moon, or Venus is:

(a) The sub lord of the 12th cusp and

(b) The significator of the 2nd or 12th

Then there is a greater possibility of defective vision.

5. Eyesight might be lost during the periods of Sun, Moon, or Venus if:

(a) Sun, Moon, or Venus is the significator of the 2md or 12th and

(b) Its sub lord is connected with the Sun, Moon, or Venus and the 12th.

6. Eyesight might be lost during the periods of a planet if:

(a) Its star lord is Sun, Moon, or Venus, and

(b) Its sub lord is connected with Sun, Moon, or Venus, and the 12th.

Finance & Prosperity

(a) Profession/service: Consider the houses 2,6 and 10 ( 2nd bank balance, self acquisition;6th services rendered, day to day attendance on duty and thereby earning; being 12th from the 7th denotes loss to others and gain to self, hence receiving money from others;10th profession, either in independent vocation or in service). Sun is the chief governor of profession.

(b) Consider the houses 1, 5 and 9th for change of profession or service (being 12th from 2, 6 and 10 respectively).

c) Consider the houses 2,6,10 and 11 for promotion rise in career or fortune; or for re-instatement in service.

(d) Consider the houses 3, 10 and 12 for transfer in service with change of place (3rd-journey; being 12th from the 4th shows absence of the present residence i.e. change of place; 10th employment; 12th life in completely unfamiliar atmosphere.

(e)  Consider the houses 1, 8, 9&12 for suspension from service 1st is 12th from the 2nd– absence of self earning; 8th suspension is one form of penalty; 9th is 12th from 10th-absence of status, position, power and name; 12th – loss in general).

(f)  Consider the houses 1, 5, 9 and 12 for retirement from service or dismissal; or loss of status in any walk of life (5th is the 12th from 6 i.e. absence of regular attendance on duty); also consider the house 8 if the native comes under the scheme of gratuity and provident fund.

Finance:

(a) Consider the houses 2, 6 and 11 for gain of money any manner.

(b)Consider the houses 2, 3, 6 and 11 for gain of lottery (3rd lottery and help from others).

(c) Consider the houses 2, 5, 6 and 11 for gain from speculation 2nd race (5th-inclination for speculation for speculation).

Jupiter is the chief governor of money.

Foreign Travel:

1. If the sub lord of the 12th cusp is the significator of the 3rd, 9th, or 12th, and especially of the 9th, then foreign travel will be promised during the joint period (dashas) of the significators of the 3rd, 9th, and 12th.

(a) Consider the houses 3, 9 and 12 for foreign travels (3rd is 12th from 4th i.e. away from the permanent place; 9th long journey, foreign travel. 12th– life in an unknown place or completely unfamiliar atmosphere).

(b) Consider the houses 3, 9 and 11 for returning to home country from foreign land (11th meeting ones own kith and kin, reunion of relatives) Moon is the chief governor of journey.

Fruitful Signs:

1. Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces are all fruitful in nature: all watery signs are fruitful.

2. Taurus, Libra, Capricorn and Sagittarius are said to be semi-fruitful.

3. Fruitful signs on the cusps of the 5th and 7th houses and their lords posited in fruitful signs, are indications of an early union.

4. Barren signs on the cusps of the 5th and 1st houses indicate that the native is not likely to marry in time (provided other testimonies also point to the same view).

5. Fruitful signs on the cusps of the 11th and 5th houses, and the lords of the 5th and 11th posited in fruitful signs, promise children.

6. Barren signs on the cusps of the 1st, 5th, and 11th, or the lords of these posited in barren signs, lessen the chances of children.

Houses:

The material below is an excerpt from Bhatt’s Nakshatra Chintamani

Grouping of Houses

Longevity

1.        Consider  houses 1, 8 and 3 for longevity

2. [a] Maraka Houses. The 12th to any particular house denotes non-existance of the matter signified by that particular house. So the houses 12 (12th to 1), 7 (12th to 8) and 2 (12th to 3) are known as the maraka (death dealing) houses

[b] Badhaka houses. The house 11 is badhaka (harmful to life) to those born in Moveable signs as their Ascendants; the 9th for those born in Fixed signs and 7th for those born in Common signs

3.         Death.   The Badhaka houses are more harmful than the Maraka houses. So for death consider first the Badhaka house and then Maraka houses. Saturn is the chief governor of longevity.

Health:

 Consider the Ascendant for health.

Disease and Cure:

Consider the house 6 for sickness or disease.

For cure consider the houses 1, 5 and 11 (1st, health, 5th is 12th to 6. absence of sickness, 11th is 12th to 12. absence of bedridden sickness).

 Accident:

Consider the houses 8 and 12 for accident (8th-serious illness, accident, suicide; 12th self-undoing, confinement in bed or hospital).  Mars, Saturn, Rahu and Ketu cause an accident.

 Education:

(a) Consider the houses 4, 9 and 11 for education (4th is the main house for education, it denotes preparation for examinations academic qualifications, regular attendance in school or college: 9th  deep study and higher education; 11th-fulfilment of desires. The 6th house shows Competitive examination (it is 12th from 7 i.e. loss to others and gain to you).

(b) Completion of education: Consider the houses 3, 5 and 8 (being 12th from 4, 6, and 9 respectively).

Mercury and Jupiter are the chief governors of education.

Building or Land:

(a)  Consider the houses 4, 11, and 12 for purchase or construction of a building (4th is the main house for building, 11th gain, 12th payment to the seller of the building or investment of money).

(b)  Consider the houses 3,5 and 10 for disposing of the building or selling it (3rd is 12th from the 4th i.e. losing the house; 5th is 11th from the 7th i.e. gain to purchaser ; 10th is 4th from the 7th i.e. building to the purchaser)

Mars is the natural significator of buildings and Saturn is that of land, mines and estates.

Marriage:

(a) Consider the houses 2, 7 and 11 for marriage (2nd addition to family; 7th-wife or husband, legal tie. It is the main house for marriage; 11th respectively).

(b) Consider the houses 1, 6 and 10 for separation or divorce (being 12th from 2,7 and 11 respectively). These houses denote absence of married life.

Venus is the chief governor of marriage.

Children:

(a)Consider the houses 2, 5and 11 for childbirth (2nd increase in the number of the members of the family due to birth of a child; 5th first conception or pregnancy, progeny or child;11th is the 5th from the 7th). The 5th for females and 11th for males are important.

(b) Consider the houses 1, 4 and 10 for absence of children or for separation from the children ( being 12th from 2,5 and 11 respectively

Jupiter is the natural significator of childbirth. In females Moon is fertility and                   Mars is menstruation. In males Venus is fertility and Sun is vitality.

Foreign Travels:

(a)Consider the houses 3, 9 and 12 for foreign travels (3rd is 12th from 4th i.e. away from the permanent place; 9th long journey, foreign travel. 12th– life in an unknown place or completely unfamiliar atmosphere).

(b)  Consider the houses 3,9 and 11 for returning to home country from foreign land (11th meeting ones own kith and kin, reunion of relatives)  Moon is the chief governor of journey.

 Finance and Prosperity:

(b) Consider the houses 2, 3, 6 and 11 for gain of lottery (3rd lottery and help from others).

(c)  Consider the houses 2, 5, 6 and 11 for gain from speculation 2nd race (5th-inclination for speculation for speculation).

Jupiter is the chief governor of money.

Independent Business:

Consider the houses 2, 7 and 10 (7th dealings with others, purchase and sale of production; it is the main house for business).

Ascendant is in the star of the occupant of the 1st or the 11th, the health is normal.

2. If the sub lord of the ascendant is is in the star of the occupant or owner of the 6th (disease and sickness), the 8th (danger to life), or the 12th (bedridden illness), this is not good for matters of health.

Horary/Prashna Charts

Erecting the Prashna/Horary Chart:

1. If a person comes to you for a consultation about a specific question, ask him/her to give you a number from 1 to 249. The number given to you is taken as the Ascendant, and from the number you can find out the sign, star and sub. (Most astrological software programs allow you to enter the Prashna/Horary number either in the data entry screen or on a separate worksheet, so the manual work is as easy as selecting a number on your keyboard, while the software calculates the chart for you.) If you are constructing a chart manually, say your client has picked the number 145. There you will see that the sign is Libra from 29 degrees 26 minutes 40 seconds to 30 degrees 00 minutes 00 seconds in the star of Vishaka, star lord is Jupiter, and sub lord is Moon. So take 29:26:40 Libra as the Ascendant, grab your Table of Houses and Panchang, and continue constructing the chart  by hand from there.

2. If you do not want to use the system of selecting a number from 1 to 249, you may instead elect to construct the chart for the moment you wish to work on the chart, giving your judgment just as you would for an ordinary horoscope. This chart should be erected for the place that you are working on the chart at the time of judgment.

Judging the Prashna/Horary:

The Moon is the mind, so in the Prashna Chart, the mind of the client is shown by the position of the Moon, and it also assists in knowing the nature of the question asked.

Generally the Moon, or its star lord or its sub lord, occupies or owns the house under question OR the Moon is connected with the house in question by conjunction or association with (by aspect) the owner or occupant of the house in question, or from the chief karaka of the matter asked about.

Fulfillment of a Query:

Planet Direct or Retrograde: Ordinarily in the prashna chart, a planet in direct motion will give the results, so a retrograde planet can give results only when it goes direct in motion, and when it crosses the point from where it initially turned retrograde. (Note: This theory is subject to modification according to experience in individual cases, as it does not always prove to be the case. Furthermore, the meaning of a retrograde planet is to be interpreted according to the nature of the question on each case.)

Cuspal Sub Lord:

1. (a) The cuspal sub lord of a house under question indicates whether the matter signified by that house is promised or not.

(b) The matter is promised if the cuspal sub lord is the significator (for example, in the star of the occupant or the owner) of that house or any one of the houses under consideration.

(c) If the cuspal sub lord or its sub star lord is retrograde, the matter is promised when they turn direct.

(d) If the star lord (of this cuspal sub lord) is retrograde, the matter is not denied, but it will not materialize during the Mahadasha, Bhukti, or Pratyantardasha of this cuspal sub lord. however, it materializes during the dasha sequence of another significator (of the matter under question) whose star lord is direct in motion.

(e) As each house denotes several particular matters, the chief governor of the matter under question may be taken into account, and it should be connected with the star lord of the cuspal sub lord of the house under question.

2. (a) In the Prashna Chart, the Ascendant indicates the efforts of the querent, while the 11th cusp shows the fulfillment of their desires or success in general.

(b) So if the cuspal sub lord of the Ascendant or the 11th cusp is the significator of the matter in question, the querent gets success in general.

(c) If the cuspal sub lord of the Ascendant or the 11th cusp is posited in house 1, 2, 3, 6, 10, or 11, or if it is in the star of the occupant of house 1, 2, 3, 6, 10, or 11, the querent gets success in all undertakings. (The Ascendant denotes success in one’s efforts, the 2nd denotes monetary gain, the 3rd denotes help from others, the 6th, being 12th to the 7th, indicates loss to the other and gain to the querent, the 10th denotes reputation, and the 11th denotes profits and gain. so these particular houses are beneficial to the querent in general).

Significators:

1. (a) The significators show the time of an event.

(b) So note the significators of the house or houses which represent the matter asked.

(c) Reject the significators which are in the star of a retrograde planet (because it cannot, during its period or sub period, give the results of its star lord).

(d) Out of these significators, give preference to those significators which are found among the following planets:

(1) Ruling Planets

(2) The sign lord, star lord, and sub lord of the cusp of the house under query.

(3) The cuspal sub lords of the houses under consideration.

(4) The joint period rulers (dashas) at the time of judgment. discretion should be used while selecting the significators from the above planets.

(e) The query will materialize during the joint period (dashas) of these significators when the transit agrees.

Transit:

At the time of the event, Sun, Moon and/or the joint period rulers (dasha rulers) will be found in the star or sub of the same joint period ruler or rulers.

Imprisonment/Incarceration:

1. Imprisonment first and foremost must include a separation from the home or domestic residence – so a change of residence should be very evident (12th from the 4th – or 3rd house) if she is to be convicted, while at the opposite end (no prison sentence) the 2nd shows a life with family members (11th from the 4th).

2,  Restricted movements  and confinement will be indicated by the 12th house and all connections to the 12th. Malefics occupying the constellations of the planets posited in the 2nd and 12th, the occupants of these two houses owning malefic houses, malefic planets in the constellations of the lords of these houses, along with the lords of these houses – would all threaten sentencing to include imprisonment/incarceration. If the lord of the 1st is also connected with any of these houses – then this also supports a contention that imprisonment is a strong possibility.

3, Rahu is a chief significator for jail, so a malefic in the 2nd or 12th in the star or sub of Rahu – and connected with the 2nd or 12th – supports a sentence involving prison. Favorable aspects to the significators of the 12th house and/or the 12th cusp, and hard aspects to the significators of the 2nd house and/or 2nd cusp can also suggest an unfavorable outcome – such as imprisonment.

Independent Business:

1. If the cuspal sub lord of the 10th is the significator of the 2nd, 7th, or 10th, an independent business or profession is promised during the joint period of the significators of the 2nd, 7th, and 10th.

2. If the cuspal sub lord of the 7th is the significator of the 2nd, 10th or 11th, gain in business is promised during the joint period of the significators of the 2nd, 10th, and 11th.

3. Consider the houses 2, 7 and 10 (7th is dealings with others, purchase and sale of production; it is the main house for business).

Intuition:

1. Only when the Moon and Mercury have harmonious aspects can one have clear exposition, proper wording, good vocabulary, and intuition. The 9th house, lord, significator, and sub, aspects, etc., should also be examined for intuition..

2. Moon is called the mind. It is like a mirror – exactly reflecting the object.

3. Mercury is for supreme intelligence, as it governs the central nervous system. It is like a lens.

4. Therefore whenever these two planets form or receive favorable aspects, they give high imagination, linguistic capabilities, keen observation, intuitive perception, quick grasp, retentive power, reproductive ability fluency of speech, and general success – especially in astrology.

5. So those who have strong Mercury aspects will thoroughly analyze, properly apply, and correctly predict.

Leaving a Job:

1. If the sub lord of the 10th or 6th cusp is the significator of the 1st, 5th, or 9th, the querent can leave service during the joint period of the significators of the 1st, 5th, and 9th. These significators are generally connected with the houses of service, which are the 2nd, the 6th, and the 10th.

Litigation:

1. According to KP, the 6th house represents litigation, and the 7th house indicates the opponent in litigation.

2. Therefore, litigation would be imminent whenever the significators of the 6th and 7th houses are operating in life.

3. The cause of the litigation is represented by the planets connected with – or associated with – the 6th house or its lord.

4. Success in litigation is promised by the lord of the 11th house or planets in the 11th house. Success is also ensured if the 6th and the 7th houses come under the influence of the lords of the stars or the occupants of the 1st, 3rd, 4th, 6th, 10th and 11th houses.

5. If the lord of the 6th house is connected with the 11th house, or the 11th house is connected with the lord of the 6th house, success in litigation is realized.

6. The above (#5) also suggests that the connection of the lords of the 12th and 5th houses will cause failure in absolute terms.

Longevity:

1.What are the indications for full longevity?

1. Look at the sub lord of the Ascendant. If this sub lord is posited in the star of a planet who is in the 1st, 5th, 9th or 10th, or owns any of these houses, this tells us that the chart owner has a long life.

2. To make this a bit clearer, if the sub lord  of the Ascendant is not in the nakshatra of either the dispositor of – or lords of – the Maraka Sthanas (2nd or 7th) or Badhakas (11th house for Cardinal signs rising, 9th house for Fixed signs rising, and 7th house for Mutable signs rising), a long life is indicated.

3. Harmonious indicators for longevity are judged by houses 1, 3, and 8, while houses 2, 7, and 12 – along with the badhaka house, are detrimental for longevity.

4. If the cuspal sub lord of the Ascendant is the significator of the badhaka and maraka houses, the life is short.

5. If the cuspal joint rulers (the sign lord, the star lord, and the sub lord) of the Ascendant or the 8th house cusp are the significators of the badhaka and maraka houses, their joint period is very critical for life.

Lost Documents:

If the cuspal sub lord of the 2nd or the 11th is the significator of the 2nd (movable article which is lost or stolen), the 6th (loss to thief, being 12th to the 7th-thief), or the 11th (regaining), movable property will be regained during the joint period of the significator of the 2nd, 6th, and 11th.

Maraka Houses:

1. The 1st, the 8th, and the 3rd are the houses of longevity, and Saturn is the chief governor of longevity..

2. The 12th to any particular house denotes non-existence of the matter signified by that particular house. the 12th house (12th to the 1st), the 7th house (12th to the 8th), and the 2nd house (12th to the 3rd) are known as the Maraka  – or death inflicting houses.

3. The Badhaka Houses are more harmful than the Maraka Houses. So when assessing death, first consider the Badhaka house, and then the maraka house.

Marriage/ Denial of Marriage/Love Affairs

Houses 2, 7, and 11 are for Marriage; while 1, 6, and 10 are for Denial of Marriage.

1. Consider the 2nd, 7th, and 11th for marriage (2nd addition to family; 7th wife or husband, legal tie. It is the main house for marriage; 11th respectively).

2. Consider houses 1, 6 and 10 for separation or divorce (being 12th from 2nd, 7th, and 11th respectively). These houses denote absence of married life.

3. Venus is the chief governor/karaka of marriage.

4. If the sub lord is the significator of the 2nd, 7th, or 11th,  it is said to be harmonious to, and connected with, the matters of the 2nd, 7th, and 11th.

5. If the sub lord of the 7th cusp is the significator (in the star of the occupant or owner) of the 1st, 6th or 10th, or connected with the 1st, 6th, 10th, Saturn, Rahu, or Ketu; barren or in sterile signs (Aries, Gemini, Leo, Virgo, or Capricorn), it denies marriage.

6. If the sub lord of the 5th cusp (love affairs) is the significator of or connected with the 2nd or 11th, it shows a love affair, and if it is connected with Rahu or Ketu, the love affair is with a person belonging to a different caste, creed, or province.

7. If the sublord of the 7th (marriage) is the significator (in the star of the occupant or owner) of the 5th or 11th, or connected with the 5th or 11th, it denotes marriage with the person in the love affair, and if it is connected with Rahu or Ketu, it denotes marriage with the person who belongs to a different caste, creed, or province.

8. If Venus is connected with Rahu or Ketu, it denotes marriage with the person belonging to a different caste, creed, or province.

9. If the sub lord of the 7th cusp is the significator or connected to the 2nd, 7th, or 11th, the native marries during the joint periods (dashas) of the significators of the 2nd (additions to the family), the 7th (wife or husband; legal tie) and 11th (permanent tie of friendship).

Mental Qualities:

The sub lord of the Ascendant, Moon, and Mercury denote mental qualities. If they are in the star and sub of malefics connected with the 6th, 8th, or 12th, they signify conspiracy, criminal, diplomatic, malicious, revengeful, relentless, shrewd, crafty, and intriguing traits.

Missing Person:

Consider the 3rd, the 9th, and the 12th for the missing person (counting from his Ascendant), and the 2nd, 8th, and 11th (being 12th to the 3rd, 9th, and 12th) for the person to return home.

Mute Signs:

1. Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces are mute signs.

2. If Mercury lording the 6th is posited in the 2nd house in a mute sign, or the lord of the 6th is posited in the 2nd in a mute sign afflicted by Mars or saturn, perceptible stammer, lisp, or other impediment will be the result.

3. Mercury anywhere in mute signs afflicted by Saturn, causes stammer.

4. If Mars adds his influence by bad aspect, then the native will talk very fast, lisp, or pronounce his words badly.

5. When Mercury happens to be in a mute sign in opposition to the Moon, the native will have a defect in speech.

6. Saturn in the lagna in a mute sign causes a speech impediment.

7. The 2nd house governs vocal organs. If a voice sign (Gemini, Libra, or Aquarius are called musical or voice signs; some western authors consider Virgo and Sagittarius also – some also include Taurus) is found in the 2nd house in a horoscope, especially if Venus or Mercury is posited there and free from affliction, then eloquence or some vocal gift may be predicted. Jupiter indicates that one will offer advice, preach, and/or will be a platform speaker. Mars and Jupiter give the native assertion, making him an orator who can move the masses by  his fiery speech. Mercury and Saturn show that he will modify his speech according to the time, circumstances, and crowd before him

News:

1. If the cuspal sub lord of the 3rd (news) is the significator (in the star of the occupant or owner) of the 3rd and the 11th, the querent will hear news.

Overseas for Studies:

If the cuspal sub lord of the 12th is the significator of the 3rd, 9th, or 12th, foreign travel is promised during the joint period of the significators of the 3rd, 9th, and 12th.

Overseas Travel:

Houses to be judged for traveling abroad are the 3rd, 9th, and 12th – and if the career or profession is involved, we must also include the 10th.

Significators:

1. Planets – including the nodes – posited in the star of the occupants of the 3rd, 9th, and 12th.

2. The occupants of these houses.

3. The planets – including the nodes – that are posited in the stars of the lords ruling the 3rd, 9th, and 12th.

4. The lords of these houses.

5. The planets conjoined with or aspected by any of the significators.

Questions:

1. Why do we judge the 3rd house?

Because to go overseas, one has to leave his permanent place of residence. The 3rd is the12th house from the 4th house of residence.

2. Why is the 9th house involved?

Long journeys are indicated by the 9th house.

3. What about the 12th house?

When one travels overseas, he stays in a foreign place. This means he will live in entirely new surroundings – in a new environment.

4. And when do we include the 10th house?

If one is traveling overseas relative to one’s career or profession, we then also look at the 10th house. However if the trip involves gambling, betting, etc., look at the 5th house. If one is traveling overseas for marriage, look at the 7th house. If one travels overseas to speak – or for lecture purposes – such as conventions, look at the 2nd house.

Part of Fortune

1. The Part of Fortune (PF) is calculated by adding the longitude of the Ascendant plus the Moon minus the Sun.

To calculate PF: Say that in a given chart the Ascendant is posited at 06 degrees Pisces 21 minutes, the Moon is posited at 27 degrees Leo 40 minutes, and the Sun is posited at 00 degrees Scorpio 01. We then have:

336 degrees 21′ (Asc: 06 Pisces 21′)

+ 147 degrees 40′ (Moon 27 Leo 41′)

_______________________________

= 483 degrees 62 minutes

– 210 degrees 01′ (Sun: 00 Scorpio 01′)

________________________________

273 degrees 60′ = 274 degrees

274 = 04 degrees Capricorn 00′

2. For transit results, the Part of Fortune deserves serious attention. Often times the PF indicates certain results which are not so apparent when looking solely at the aspects formed by the transits to the natal planets.

3.  The calculated points in a chart (Ascendant and Midheaven) change quickly – as does the Part of Fortune. Consider the effects of the aspects produced from these points – as they change rapidly – and therefore will be the determining factor for assessing differences when considerations are given for births that occur within a tight time frame of one another. Different aspects produce different results, and therefore the PF should be included in your chart assessments to both fine tune predictions and account for the experiences with respect to different life circumstances/events for individuals born within a few minutes of one another.

Planetary Effects:

1. In KP, how are we to judge how the planets will react in any given situation?

A planet moving in a star is primarily under the influence of the lord of that star, and the planet will predominately give the results of the house the star lord occupies, in addition to the house(s) owned by the star lord. Then, the planet itself will offer the results of the house it occupies and the house(s) it owns. Assess both the star lord and the planet to determine the nature of the event.

Political Career:

Saturn denotes diplomacy; Sun government, power, position, name, and fame; Jupiter dignity and wisdom; Mars coercion, controlling power and dominance; Rahu politics and government.

Leo, Sagittarius, Capricorn, and Aquarius; cardinal signs; angular houses, houses 9, 10, and 11 are to be considered for cases of politics and public life.

Ascendant denotes inclinations; 10th house cusp ambitions; 11th cusp realization of ambitions and aspirations, success in general.

So if the sub lord of the Ascendant, 10th cusp and 11th cusp are strong significators of the 9th, 10th, and 11th, the native plunges into public life, or he shines as a statesman or politician.

It should also be remembered that a planet owning both the Trikona and Kendra gives prosperity in general.

Pregnancy:

Is my daughter pregnant?

1. If the cuspal sub lord of the 5th:

(a) Occupies the fruitful sign of Cancer, Scorpio, or Pisces, and

(b) Is the significator of the 2nd, 5th, or 11th,

Then the woman under concern is pregnant.

2. If the cuspal sub lord of the 5th :

(a) Occupies the barren sign of Aries, Gemini, Leo, or virgo, and

(b) is in the starof the planet in the barren sign

Then the woman under concern is not pregnant.

Promotion:

Better prospects, honor, prestige, and rank are to be studied from the 10th house, and an increase in income – as well as other benefits – are to be judged from the 11th house. The 2nd and 6th houses are to be considered anytime the question is relative to the profession.

The order in which we have to select the significators according to their strength is as follows:

1. The planets posited in the star of the occupants of the 2nd, 6th, 10th or 11th.

2. The planets posited in the 2nd, 6th, 10th, or 11th.

3. The planets posited in the stars of the lords of the 2nd, 6th, 10th or 11th.

4. The lords of the above houses.

5. The planets conjoined with the strong significators.

6. The planets aspected by the strong significators.

7. Rahui or Ketu posited in the sign of any of the strong significators.

Houses to be judged for promotions are the 2nd, 6th, 10th and 11th.

 Significators:

(Note: Whether Rahu or Ketu is in a sign conjoined with, aspected by, or owned by a planet, then the node is to be both considered and preferred.)

1. Rahu or Ketu, or the planets posited in the star of the occupants of either the 2nd, 6th, 10th, or 11th.

2. The occupants.

3. The node or the planets posited in the star of the owners of the 2nd, 6th, 10th and 11th.

4. the owners.

5. The node or the planets conjoined with any of the significators.

(This rule is universal, simple, scientific, correct, and convincing.)

Question: When can I expect the next promotion?

Based on the above, select the common planets among the significators, and the ruling planets at the moment of judgment, and line up the appropriate dasha sequence (dasha, bhukti, pratyantardasha, and shookshma) to determine when the next promotion will occur.

Publishing a Book:

1. Consider the 3rd and 11th houses for writing and publication of books.

2. If the cuspal sub lord of the 3rd and the 11th is Mercury (writings) or Jupiter (publications), or if it is the significator of the 3rd and the 11th, and if the star lord of this cuspal sub lord is connected with Mercury and Jupiter, the querent can write a book and publish it.

3. During the joint period of the significators of the 3rd and the 11th, the book will be written and published. These significators are generally connected with Mercury (writing), Jupiter (publications), and Mars (printing).

Punarphoo:

What is “Punarphoo”?

It is said that whenever Saturn has any connections with the Moon, obstacles arise giving delays – along with headaches, fears, and anxieties. These uncertainties are caused by the distressing combination of the Sa/Mo connections.

1. Punarphoo is a term for Moon-Saturn aspects in the Natal Chart.

2. Punarphoo pertains to any one of these:

(a) Saturn in the star of the Moon and his own sub,

(b) or Moon is in the star of Saturn and in her own sub,

(c) or if Moon and Saturn are in the same sign.

3. The condition pertains also if the Moon is in the star of Saturn and in the sub of the Moon,

or if the Moon is the 3rd or 10th sign from Saturn, to Saturn’s 3rd and 10th aspect from the Moon.

4. Punarphoo also applies to Saturn aspects to the chart in general.

The Cancellation of Punarphoo:

K.P. & Astrology: 1996 Annual

Mr. L.Y.Rao came across the following information (quite accidently) while browsing through old issues of the K.P. Annuals.  In this particular article below, the subject of Cancellation of Punarphoo had been discussed by the late Pt. K.R. Kar, issued in the 1996 Annual: K.P. & Astrology, (pages 69-72).

I also personally thank Mr L.Y. Rao, for sharing with us the following information from the Annual.

Cancellation takes place briefly when:

1. Saturn or Moon are found in association with Sun, in one sign. (could be divided into two bhavas).

2. Sun is in the star of either of them.

3. Sun is in a star, lord of which is near either Moon or Saturn.

4. When there is any planet close to the Moon or Saturn, in the star of the Sun.

5. And lastly, Saturn or Moon is in the sub-sub of the Sun.
“It is hoped that the above “Cancellation of Punarphoo” theory will help members to do more research on this interesting subject – which is full of pitfalls for the average follower of K.P.”

Qualifications of an Astrologer

The Sage says: “An astrologer should come from a noble family, should be good to look at, modest in temperament, true, impartial, and with good physique. He has to be active and courageous. He should be clear in his statement, witty, sincere, and free from vices. He should have no stage fear. He should worship Devas; observe fast and penance; and must be conversant with astronomy and astrology. In the astronomical science, there are five schools of thought in India:

(1). Paulisa

(2). Romaka Siddhanta

(3). Vasishta

(4). Saura

(5). Paitamaha

The astrologer should be thorough with all the Siddhantas. He must be able to understand the objections and points of differences.”

He asks “How could one who has not understood the spirit of the Sastras, be called an astrologer?” And adds that he is only a fool whose interpretation if just opposite to the principles expounded by our sages and commits mistakes in his calculations. Varahamihira admits “It is easy for anybody to cross a sea if the breeze is favorable. But it is not possible for a person who is not a sage to reach the other shore of the ocean of astrology.”

Varahamihira opines that even sages in forests, free from domestic worry, pride, and prejudice, welcome the astrologer and without hesitation take interest in astrology when they, by chance, meet any wise astrologer.

Rahu and Ketu

   1. How can we tell what planet the nodes represent, or what planets the nodes act as agents for in a chart?

Rahu and Ketu are nodes The nodes are always stronger than the planets represented by them.. In the order of importance, the nodes act as agents for:

(a). The planet with whom it is conjoined

(b). The lord of the constellation in which it is disposited

(c). The planet or planets aspecting it

(d). And lastly, the owner of the sign in which it resides.

Retirement:

1. The 1st, 5th, 9th, and 12th signify retirement from service.

2. The 2nd, 6th, and 10th indicate service. So the 12th house to the 2nd, 6th, and 10th, which is the 1st, 5th, and 9th, show the end of service, or retirement.

Retrograde Planets:

1. Should retrograde planets be cause for concern?

In a Natal Chart there is nothing to worry about with respect to whether a planet is in direct or retrograde motion – there is no difference in analysis. Retrograde planets neither lose strength, nor are they harmful.

In a Prashna/Horary Chart, if a retrograde planet is posited in the star of a planet which is in direct motion, it indicates that after an obstacle and/or delay, the matter will materialize when the planet goes direct and passes beyond the point from where the retrograde motion initially began.

However, planets in retrograde motion – if posited in the star of another retrograde planet – or in its own star when retrograde – promise only failure. And planets in direct motion, if posited in the star of a retrograde planet, will not see success.

Rival Competition:

In cases of competition and contests between two rival parties in any walk of life (sports, politics, etc)., if the cuspal sub lord of the 11th house (success) and that of the 6th (defeat to the rival) occupy the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 6th, 10th, or 11th and are in the star of the occupant of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 6th, 10th, or 11th, the team or competitor under query will win the match.

Ruling Planets:

1. Ruling Planets:

Jot down the time and day when a question is put to you or when you construct the horoscope for your analysis and judgment.

The day begins from Sunrise: Day Lords are: Sun governs Sunday, Moon – Monday, Mars – Tuesday, Mercury – Wednesday, Jupiter – Thursday, Venus – Friday, Saturn – Saturday.

The Ruling Planets are listed below in their Order of Preference:

1. The star lord of the Ascendant

2. The sign lord of the Ascendant

3. The star lord of the Moon

4. The sign lord of the Moon

5. The Day Lord

(These 5 Ruling Planets above are taken at the time of query or judgment).

Rahu/Ketu and Ruling Planets::

If Rahu or Ketu is conjoining or aspects a Ruling Planet, or if Rahu or Ketu is posited in a sign owned by one of the Ruling Planets, then Rahu and/or Ketu should be included as a Ruling Planet.

The Ruling planet which is in the star or sub of a retrograde planet should be omitted.

Saint:

1. Sun – spirit; Moon – mind; Jupiter – morals, religion and philosophy; Saturn – meditation, renunciation, penance; Ketu – spiritualism, sainthood.

Houses 4, 8, and 12; Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces, show spiritual tendencies. The 9th house and Sagittarius denote morals, devotion, philosophy, religion, intuition, farsightedness. The 5th house denotes spiritual practice. the 12th house denotes self-sacrifice, seclusion, renunciation, emancipation.

2. (a) If the sub lord of the Ascendant (out look) is the significator (in the star of the occupant or owner) of the 3rd (mental tendencies), the 10th (aims) and the 12th (renunciation), or connected with the 3rd, 10th or 12th and Saturn, the native leans toward renunciation.

(b) If the sub lord of the 11th cusp (fulfillment of desires) is the significator (in the star of the occupant or owner) of the 5th and 10th or connected with the 5th and 10th, the native achieves spiritual attainment.

Scholarship:

1.   If the cuspal sub lord of the 11th is the significator of the 2nd (money), the 6th (scholarship), or the 11th (gain), and connected with the 4th house (studies), the native gets the scholarship for studies during the joint periods (dashas) of the significators of the 2nd, 6th, and 11th which are connected with the 4th.

Second Marriage:

1. What cuspal sub lord determines the second marriage of a person?

The 2nd cuspal sub lord and its dispositor shows the 2nd marriage.

2. How do we know if a second marriage is indicated?

If the 7th cuspal sub lord is the Sun, and posited in the star of Mercury (owner of a dual sign), a second marriage is indicated.

Selling a House:

   1. When will I be able to sell my home?

If the cuspal sub lord of the 10th (house going to the buyer) is the significator (in the star of the occupant or owner) of the 3rd (parting with the house; 12th from 4th) or 10th house, the house can be sold during the joint period (dasha, bhukti, pratyantardasha) of the significators of the 3rd, 5th, and 10th.

Significators of Health/Disease:

1.      Ascendant: The degree rising on the cusp of the Ascendant is of great importance in judging the health. It rules the body. The bodily strength and its power of resisting disease may be judged from the Ascendant.

2.      Sun: It rules the vitality, constitution of the body, and hereditary traits.

Does a Planet get Exalted or debilitated by Just being placed in a sign???

by Vikas Varshney

Does a Planet get Exalted or debilitated by Just being placed in a sign???
For instance just because Jupiter is placed In the Zodiac Sign Cancer, must we treat it As Exalted ?

We were originally talking about whether a planet must be considered as Exalted or debilitated by just virtue of being in a particular sign, or not.

Jupiter is Exalted in Cancer at 5 degrees. Here the Nakshatra which appears is Pushya, ruled by Saturn.

Suppose Jupiter is at 5 Degrees in Cancer, for a Capricorn native. This Jupiter would give the native a good physical strength, happiness through marriage, wealth, wealth also by marriage, and happiness of family.

Suppose this same Jupiter was in 18 degrees Cancer for the same native. Then what would have been the results?

Would we still call it Exalted (which mistake most of the astrologers make)? The native would have been prone to ill health. No connection of this Jupiter to wealth or family happiness. No connection to happiness through marriage, instead would have been worse for marriage and created strife’s in the married Life.

In both above cases The Jupiter is exalted for the same native in the same Lagna and sign and house, but results diametrically different when degrees are different.

So the Degree does matters. All this is not written clearly in the Books available with us, because this knowledge is not meant to fall in wrong hands. It’s when we have the fortune to meet a good Guru and learn from him, that we realize that what appears on surface, may not be what is intended to be known by all.

Education Through Astrology!

by Vikas Varshney

The 4th, 9th and 11th are the houses to be studied in any Horoscope if one wishes tocheck ones education . 4th is to be seen for academic, school upto SSc level or school level and B.Com graduation or College levels maximum. 9th to be seen for Higher educations or Phd,Research, Chartered Accountancy, Law, Actuary, Doctorate, etc. and others where deep study is required. 11th connected to above would show fulfillment. 3rd connected to above would show hindrances. 8th connected to above would show stoppage or disconnections. 6th house too would denote a person preparing for competitive examinations like CET,CAT, entrance as such , because 6th shows laborious hours given to study and also 12th from 7th which means loss to others and gains to You in competition.

Mercury and Jupiter would be natural Karakas (Significators)for Education.

Break in Educations

This is individual destiny that even with best of intellect, resources, and conducive atmosphere, one is not able to complete his education.Normally if you see the reasons in thousands of cases it all comesdown to 3rd and 8th houses and also the 10th figuring in the Calculations. These are 12th or negation to the houses of completion of studyi.e. 4th ,9th and 11th.

Example-Suppose in case when a school going childs father gets transferred quite frequently to various cities due to his profession or service, then in the boys chart every time his 3rd house would be activated. Or if sudden accident or hospitalization occurs at time of SSC or Board examinations then his 8th house would be activated.Or at B. Com level starting if any boy who has family business and his father needs him in the business then his 10th house would be activated. In all above cases breaks would be there in education.

I want to write more on this, but some other time. because other houses also play a part like 5th(would cause laziness), 9 + 10th, 8 + 9th and many other such combinations which will cover all practicalcases where we don’t find apparent reasons for one not completing his education though person is very smart and born in affluent family with own study room, enough money, tuitions, coaching classes, and access to all modern means of increasing ones levels of understandingthe subject he is into.
